OVERVIEW
Cisco Systems® announces Cisco IOS® Software updates for Cisco® Catalyst® 3750, 3560, 3550, & 2970 series intelligent Ethernet switches and Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module (CGESM). This product bulletin contains content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)SE. For more information about the Cisco IOS Software release process, see Product Bulletin 537.
The Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module (CGESM) is an integrated OEM Ethernet blade switch from Cisco built for the HP BladeSystem chassis.
QinQ, Per ASIC per VLAN policing, L2PT, and DSCP transparency are features required for Metro Ethernet applications and enterprise deployments include QinQ, Per ASIC per VLAN policing, Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP), and differentiated services code point (DSCP) transparency. These features, currently on Cisco Catalyst 3550 Series switches, are added to Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 3560 series switches with this software release. Their behavior is identical on all three series.
Support for Bidirectional Cisco Discovery Protocol version 2 is added to Cisco Catalyst 3750, 3560, and 3550 series Power over Ethernet (PoE) capable switches. This feature enables the switch to power up Cisco's next-generation IP phones. Without this support, phones such as the Cisco IP Phone 7970G will not power up in full-power mode (requires 12W at peak) but stay in low-power mode (requires 6.3W at peak).
This release adds PoE budgeting enhancements for maximum wattage and static wattage to PoE-capable Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 3560 series switches. This power management function is applicable on a 48-port PoE platform. The new maximum wattage feature specifies the maximum wattage allowed on a port and can be used to disallow higher-powered Cisco powered devices if they are connected. If a device asks the switch for more than the maximum power, the switch shuts off power to the port and the power allocated to that port is reclaimed into the global power budget. If the device's IEEE class is greater than the allowed power, the switch does not supply power to the port. The new static wattage feature allows the switch to allocate inline power for a static port when it is configured with a "static" designation, rather then when a powered device is discovered. The port is not adjusted in response to the device or its IEEE class.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) support is added to all switches addressed by this product bulletin. SSL provides a secure means to use Web-based tools such as HTML-based device managers.
A new packet-based broadcast storm control feature is added to all switches addressed by this product bulletin. It allows you to limit broadcast traffic on a packets-per-second basis in addition to percentage of negotiated bandwidth.
Private VLAN (PVLAN), Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol Inspection (DAI), and IP Source Guard (IPSG) features are currently available on Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 3560 series switches running Enhanced Multilayer Image (EMI). Tested PVLAN, DAI, and IPSG interoperability is added in this Cisco IOS Software release. This advance further consolidates security on Cisco Catalyst switches by preventing security holes.
The HTTP software upgrade feature currently on Cisco Catalyst 3750, 3560, and 2970 series switches is being added to Cisco Catalyst 3550 Series switches running Standard Multilayer Image (SMI) and EMI. This feature is available on the noncrypto and crypto images.
The EtherChannel® feature is currently supported on Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series switches. For greater flexibility in configuring logical port groupings, you can now configure 48 EtherChannels across a stack of 9 switches with this release.
Additional syslog messages related to Spanning Tree Protocol are added to all switches addressed by this product bulletin, making it even easier to use and troubleshoot operations that use this protocol.

| Description
| Cisco Device Manager
| Cisco Device Manager is a graphical device management tool that provides real-time views of the configuration and performance conditions for a single switch. It provides features such as Express Setup and Smartports to simplify switch management tasks. It also uses graphical, color-coded displays such as a Front Panel view of the switch, graphs, and animated indicators to simplify switch monitoring tasks.
Cisco Device Manager can be started from anywhere in your network through a Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Cisco Catalyst 3750, 3560, 3550, and 2970 series switches extend support for Cisco Device Manager with this software release.
