Cisco Security MARS Product Team announces the availability of the CS-MARS Software Release 6.0.1 for download from the Cisco.com software center.
MARS Software Release 6.0.1 provides a single, uniform software release for all MARS platforms – All Models for both Generation 1 hardware and Generation 2 hardware. Customers on 4.x Releases as well as 5.x releases will be able to upgrade to Release 6.0.1.
MARS 6.0.1 brings a host of new features to the platform such as Device Support Framework, Platform logging for high-throughput devices, several application feature enhancements, and an update to most Cisco and Non-Cisco supported devices. In addition, the MARS forum on Netpro is active since Summer 2008, and continues to be a valuable virtual meeting place for MARS customers, Cisco field SME’s, CSE’s, and our valuable partners.
A more complete bug fix list and signature updates are detailed in the Release Notes.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS FOR RELEASE 6.0.1:
System and Operational Enhancements to increase operational benefits and preserve customer investment in the CS-MARS platform with a Unified Code Base. A single image for MARS Gen1 and Gen2 appliances, provides for migration and upgrade from both 4.x and 5.x software releases to 6.x.
Cisco IPS features provides native support for Cisco IPS Risk Rating, Threat Rating and Virtual Sensors in MARS. It will competitively differentiate the Cisco IPS + MARS value proposition by enabling MARS to further refine IPS event data for effective threat detection and attack fidelity of the incident.
Platform Logging for high-throughput devices
(ASA-5580 Support) supports logging, monitoring and mitigation for high-throughput devices with no additional MARS hardware requirement. MARS specific enhancements ensure Netflow v9 templates can be parsed for messages from ASA-5580. Key capabilities of logging, correlation and mitigation work as in existing platforms when ASA Netflowv9 is stored.
Device Support Framework
(DSF) enhances the velocity and flexibility of device support allowing for faster, more flexible and more scalable device support for existing and new Cisco and Non-Cisco devices in MARS. DSF enables customers to get additional event/message type without changing the current/native events. Other key capabilities this framework offers is the ability to import and export the parser, rules and reports, custom signature support for Cisco IPS, as well as troubleshooting and diagnostics capabilities to diagnose issues with custom parsers enabled on MARS.
MARS Application features have been enhanced specifically in the areas of Global Controller/Local Controller communication and performance, PCI Reporting, cross-linkages between Cisco Security Manager and MARS for IPS virtual sensors.
